Search Engine Optimisation Explained

In the section you will lean about what is SEO and why do I need SEO.

What is SEO?

SEO ‘search engine optimisation’. It’s used to increasing both the quantity and quality of traffic to your website, giving greater exposure to your business and brand. This is created through non-paid (also known as “organic”) search engine results.

SEO is about search engines and how you rank but is also about people. You have to think about and understand what people are searching for online, what answers someone is looking for, what words and phrases they are using and the kind of content they are looking for. Knowing the answers to these questions will help you connect to the people who are searching online and help them to connect to your website.

knowing your audience and their intent is one thing for great SEO, and delivering it for people and search engines to find is the other.

Why do I need SEO?

If you are thinking about or have already paid for advertising through social media, Google and other online platforms, this can generate traffic to your website but, the majority of online traffic is driven by search engine results.

It’s important to have organic search results because they cover more digital airspace, appear more credible on search engines when people type what they are looking for, and receive way more clicks than paid advertisements. For example, of all US searches, only ~2.8% of people click on paid advertisements.

These results show: SEO has ~20X more traffic opportunity than PPC on both mobile and desktop.

Getting the most from your website and gaining more traffic and customers, SEO is very important because it is one of the only online marketing channels that, when used and configured correctly, can continue to pay dividends over time. If you create an interesting and well written piece of content that uses the right keywords, search engines will recognise this and your traffic can continue to increase over time, whereas advertising needs continuous funding to send traffic to your site.

Search engines are getting smarter and are always evolving but, they still need us to provide the write content and strategies so they can help us.

Optimising your site will help deliver better information to search engines so that your content can be properly indexed and displayed within search results.
